Washington DC 2010 Part 2

I thought I was going to blog about this in one entry, but finding a hard time narrowing it down to not be an obnoxious about of pictures, so I am going to break it up in two posts. Here's the 2nd part of our trip!

My favorite memorial in DC!


We were able to see the FDR Memorial (which is HUGE!) and that was really neat...I recommend all visitors to make their way over there to see it...it's worth your while!

We checked out the Lincoln Memorial at night...and it was beautiful!

I was able to spend some time at the WWII memorial when I was waiting on mom and Banks, who had walked down to the Vietnam Memorial. I listened to a "Ranger Talk" at the memorial and learned so much about the memorial and neat stories that were being told of the men who served in the war. The ranger taught me that this memorial was not only dedicated to the men who served in the war, but also to the entire generation, because it took the entire generation to win the war. "Flights of Honor" are taken from all over the country, where they will fly men and woman who served in the war by flying them to DC and taking them to see the memorial. I was honored to meet several men and woman who were there on that trip and that was a special memory for me.

Our last museum stop on our trip was Smithsonian Air and Space. We were hot and tired by this point, and ready to get home...so it was a very quick walk thru. They spent months and months updating Smithsonian's American History and it was quite obvious how incredible that museum was in comparison to Air and Space which was slightly dated.

Mary Alice + Steven

We traveled to Winder, GA for Mary Alice and Steven's engagement party Saturday night. It was located downtown Athens and we had a wonderful time seeing old friends, meeting new ones, and celebrating Mary Alice and Steven! We are excited that kick off to their November 20th wedding has come!

Litchfield 2010

We just returned this afternoon from a wonderful week-long vacation to Litchfield by the Sea. It's a completely different experience from our vacation last summer to Hawaii. We did little on this trip besides sleep, eat, ride bicycles, and sit by the beach. Basically...a whole lotta NOTHING! It was heavenly and a wonderful trip!

And the highlight of our trip was Banks was offically offered the head coaching job at Wando High School in Mt. Pleasant. It is quite bittersweet as he will be leaving Lexington and won't be as close for impromptu family dinners, but we could not be any prouder of him and his hard work! Wando is an awesome 4A High School and we are excited to see him start his head coaching career there. (Not to mention...we are looking forward to having an excuse to visit Charleston!)

Birthday!

I had a really great 27th Birthday. I'm not really sure how I have reached that age. It is scary to think I am much closer to 30 than I am to 20. Oh well...as Amy said, let's focus on the memories we've made in those years rather than the number! I was able to celebrate with all of my family throughout the week. My mom and Mrs. Douglas came up to work on the house--and it is really looking great. (after 11 months of living here...) I will give a tour soon of what we've been working on. Blogging hasn't been on my to-do list this summer, hopefully I will be better throughout the month of July as we have our beach trip starting tomorrow, Washington DC the following week, and wedding parties for Mary Alice.
Josh's parents surprised me BIG time with a Le Creuset. I cannot tell you how long I have wanted one of these little beauties. It's definitely not something I would ever buy for myself, but I love it--especially in the red :) Now I just have to figure what to bake in it!

God's gift to coffee drinkers! Josh's parents surprised me with this wonderful gadget. I have lusted after it after Stephanie showed me hers worked back in February. It is perfect for our house, as I am the only one who drinks coffee. No preparation, no clean up. It is amazing and I highly recommend it!!!

Thanks Dad and Kim! They sent me these beautiful flowers! It was a sweet surprise!


My mom gave me an awesome bookshelf for my kitchen that I can fill with cookbooks...pictures to come when I show you the house re-arranging :)

Braves Game!

Mary Alice and I have been planning a Braves Game for quite a while and it finally happened. It was a little toasty, but other than that--it was a great time and the Braves WON! We also were able to check out MAP's adorable new townhome. Another great weekend in ATL!

This picture semi grosses me out. I decided to eat a hot dog for dinner at the game. That is fairly huge for me to order a hot dog. Josh was carrying it and as we were sitting down, the hot dog tipped over and off fell all the toppings onto the ground--resulting in a plain hot dog. Oh well...made for a good story if nothing else!

We were handed these lovely tomahawk "bam bams" prior to entering the stadium. Needless to say, they were endless entertainment for me!

We ended the night with a beautiful fireworks show!
